It’s not necessarily an “either-or” phenomenon, so stop trying to make it so.

- Reality Check - Leaps of Faith
Every now and then, life requires us to let go of the known in order to explore the unknown. We quit our old jobs and set out on a new path as our own boss or in a new career. We let go of old hurts and leave relationships that bring us down with the hopes that something better is out there waiting for us. We decide to change majors, move to new cities, or simply cease a bad habit.
These leaps of faith are essential aspects of life, since they represent the times in our lives when we learn the most about ourselves. When we act without guarantees or certainty on outcomes, we build courage and bravery. We strengthen our self-esteem (“I really can do this!”) and we refresh our outlook on life.
If we could only make more conscious leaps of faith in our lives, our quality of living would improve exponentially. We learn that uncertainty is a given in life, but that it needn’t be something to fear. By embracing the process of change, we adjust better to life’s ups and downs, both physically and mentally. Instead of being caught off guard, or thrown off balance, we learn to adjust on the fly, and take risks to improve our lives accordingly.
It all starts with that first step toward the unknown.
